Tesla DRANK WINE FROM VARAZDIN, CROATIA

From the letters that Tesla sent to his uncle, Pajo Mandic, Tesla's favorite drink was the wine his uncle sent him from Varazdin in Croatia. His uncle was a colonel in the Austro-Hungarian army and served in Varazdin at that time. In his letters, Tesla who was in the USA asked his uncle to send him wines from Varazdin because he didn't like other wines. In one letter, he was quite disappointed as the wine had not arrived.

PAJO MANDIC, UNCLE OF NIKOLA TESLA

Nikola Tesla was close with his uncle Pajo Mandic. Uncle Pajo - a colonel in the Austro-Hungarian army - helped young Nikola with his schooling and later assisted his nephew in the search for his first job.

After Tesla moved to the United States, the two remained in contact through letters, some of which have been preserved and made public. The central topic of several letters is wine. It's obvious Tesla was quite a fan of the wine his uncle sent him from Varaždin.

IMPATIENT TO GET WINE

It seems that Tesla was very impatient to get wine from his uncle. In one letter he wrote:

"Dear Uncle, I received your two letters, but I was very busy and did not have time to answer immediately. I'm writing just a few lines, because I am writing with urgency. The wine has not arrived yet. It seems that all the bottles you and Uncle Trivun sent were broken.

VISIT OF NIKOLA TESLA TO VARAZDIN

Nikola Tesla visited Varazdin on May 25, 1892. He spent two days in the city as a guest of his uncle Pajo Mandic's family. He probably tasted Varazdin wines on that occasion, because the letters in which he asked his uncle to send wines to him in the USA date from 1894.
